Safelights
Safelights has three basic parts that you should know about. The lamp housing is the part that hods the bulb and the filter and keeps the white light emitted from the bulb escaping. The safelight filter absorbs light of some of the colors and transmits lights of various degrees. The bulb wattage is dependent on various factors such as filter illumination and lamp housing and the distance the safelight is from where all the material is going to be. Safelight filters tend to fade with use. This means they transmit more and more lights of colors than they absorb and should be replaced often. Safelight bulbs also fade in time and should be replaced at certain times. People don't understand that they need to do these things to keep safelights working properly. You want to make sure you follow the recommended wattage and the distance as not to effect the photographic material. Safelights are used to make sure you have enough light but not to much as to effect the production of the photo process. Many times people don't realize this and the product that they produce isn't the same quality as they had hoped for because they haven't used proper safelights.
